Hear About FOSTER Success From the Founder

Founder’s Story

FOSTER Success was founded by Alexzandra Monford

Founder of Legacy Achievement Network for Empowerment (LANE Strategies)

As a Black woman, former foster youth, and first-generation college graduate, she created the program to help address a major gap: many young people are expected to manage adult financial responsibilities without ever being taught how money systems actually work.

Through FOSTER Success, she brings together financial education, empowerment, and lived insight to support youth in building practical skills, confidence, and a stronger foundation for the future. She created this program to make financial literacy more approachable, culturally relevant, and deeply supportive for foster youth, first-generation wealth builders, and others impacted by systemic inequities.

Her goal is to help close the financial literacy gap by offering real-world education, relatable role models, and trusted community spaces where young people can build the skills and confidence to thrive.

Why I Started This Program

FOSTER Success started because financial literacy is about more than money. It is about safety, stability, confidence, and choice. Too many youth are expected to navigate banking, budgeting, housing, college costs, credit, and employment decisions with little guidance. For foster youth, those pressures are often even greater.

This program was built to offer a more relevant, trauma-informed, and youth-centered approach — one that prepares young people for real life, not just a workshop.

Mission

We exist to empower and uplift current and former youth through accessible, culturally responsive financial education that builds real-world skills, confidence, and long-term stability.

Vision

We envision a future where the underserved no longer have to navigate financial independence alone; and where young people are supported to build brighter futures and generational change.

Goal

Close the financial literacy gap through education and empower underserved individuals with the tools to build generational wealth and create a lasting legacy.

Infographic titled "Foster Youth Outcomes in California: Key Facts at a Glance" showing statistics on educational attainment, homelessness, and financial gaps among foster youth compared to peers. It highlights that only 10.8% of foster youth complete a degree by age 23, compared to 36% of peers, and that the gap for 4-year degrees by age 26 is 3% vs. 24%. It notes that 43% of former foster youth experience homelessness after exiting care, more than double the 19% of other students. The infographic also compares the average unmet financial need for students with foster care experience ($15,200) versus those without ($8,100), indicating a $7,100 higher gap for foster youth. It emphasizes that stronger support and investment are needed to address these disparities.

Stories Through Spoken Word

FOSTER Success includes more than financial education. It also makes room for voice, truth, healing, and lived experience. Through spoken word, these pieces reflect the emotional realities, resilience, and personal stories that often shape a young person’s relationship with money, identity, and transition.
